A very nice side trip

Today's ride was another in depth view of corn farming. Lots of different tractors with weird attachments. I didn't take many pictures, and rode pretty hard today because I had a goal. We ended in Champaign, IL, which is only a 3 hour drive from my parents in Chicago. I rented a car and made it up to Chicago in time for dinner.

Here's my dad, Uncle Sy, Aunt Beverly and my mom.

If you've been reading this blog, you may remember a recurring theme that Midwest people are NICE. My mom and dad are the nicest people in the Midwest, which is saying a lot.

I'm spending the night in Chicago, then rejoining the gang in Champaign in time for Thursday's ride. I love the cycling gang, but it's great to be able to come up here and see the family.

I blitzed through the ride today and didn't visit anything or meet any people that blow up small mammals. So, I'll answer a question I've received from a few people - What do I eat while doing all this cycling? The simple answer is everything. My bike computer says I burned 6200 calories on yesterday's ride. I think that number is high, but the real number is big anyway. Here's what I ate yesterday:

Breakfast

1 big bowl raisin bran
1 large glass orange juice
2 cups coffee - necessary for life
1 container yogurt
1 bagel
1 sweet roll

On the bike, first leg

22 oz. gatorade
22 oz. water w/ electrolytes
1 Clif bar

First SAG stop

1 banana
1 brownie
A bunch of goldfish
12 oz. gatorade
On the bike, second leg

22 oz. gatorade
22 oz. water
1 Clif bar
1 nut bar

Second SAG stop
1 banana
12 oz. water
A bunch of triscuits
small box of raisins
On the bike, last leg
22 oz. gatorade
12 oz. water
1 Clif bar
Lunch
1 Starbucks grande latte (actually before lunch)
1 Denver omelet
2 slices toast
Heap of hash browns
Iced tea
Dinner
2 cocktail egg rolls
A heap of carrots
10 slices Pizza Hut pizza (small slices, but it really was 10)
1 cup beer
1 cup pepsi
1 double nut fudge brownie sundae
In other words, I eat everything.

  1. that isn't much of a balanced diet. I think you need at least one more Starbucks and 2 additional cups of beer to keep up your ratio-4% beer in your blood and 12% coffee. LOL.

    keep pedalling. go blackhawks.
